Anyone who knows the biographies of JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis knows they were friends. It clearly shows in this review of The Hobbit.
Our standards of ‘full disclosure’ have grown more strict since this time. I think we would expect at least one reference to ‘my good friend’ or something along that line.
